James Horace Gaines 1951-2019
Jame Horace Gaines was born Sunday, April 15, 1951 in Greenville County to the late Houston and Elizabeth Dogan Gaines. He was raised in the rural setting of the Piedmont, SC area as the youngest of the five brothers. The family attended the New Forksville Baptist Church of Honea Path, SC. Horace was a devoted worker and retired from Sealed-Air (Cryovac) Corporation after thirty-one years of service in 2015. He also briefly worked as a school bus driver for the Greenville County School District. Horace attended Bryson High School and was associated with the final graduating class of 1970, prior to integration.
Horace was preceded in death by his brothers Leroy “Yogi” Gaines, Curtis “Gassah” Gaines, and Walton “Dank” Gaines. He is survived by his children, Rayvelette Gaines Farrington and Lemuel Henri “Lenny” Gaines of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren, Nia Imani Farrington and Myracle Rajoyce Farrington of Simpsonville, SC. The last surviving brother is Wilton “Shorty” (Cora) Gaines of Pelzer, SC, and sister, Debbie Gail-Jackson of Greenville, SC; along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
James will certainly be missed by the his co-workers at Sealed-Air (Cryovac), his friends at Gold’s Gym, and the daily calls he placed to his many acquaintances.
